FAQ
Why can't I open a WebP file?
WebP is a modern web image format — older software (legacy Office, some photo viewers, older OS versions) doesn't recognize it. If a website "saved" as .webp, converting to JPG makes it work everywhere.
Does WebP to JPG conversion lose quality?
WebP decode is exact; the JPG re-encode at quality 90+ is visually lossless for photos. You control the quality slider if size matters.
Are animated WebP files supported?
Animated WebP converts frame-by-frame — you'll get each frame as a separate JPG. For a static image, you get one JPG as expected.
Why do websites use WebP at all?
It loads ~30% faster than JPG for the same quality. Great for websites, less great when you just want to open the image in your old software — hence this page.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
Never. Conversion is pure browser-side WebAssembly. Disconnect your Wi-Fi and try it — it still works. That's how you know it's private.
